Here's the simple version: it's not your terbinafine that gets affected here, it's the caffeine in your oolong tea. Terbinafine slows down how fast your body clears caffeine (studies showed about a 19% drop in clearance). So the caffeine sticks around a little longer than usual.

In real life that might mean feeling a bit more wired, jittery, having trouble sleeping, a faster heartbeat, or a touch of stomach upset, especially if you're drinking several cups a day or you're sensitive to caffeine. The good news is this is a minor interaction and the effect is modest. You don't need to give up your tea. If you notice you're more keyed up than usual while on terbinafine, just ease back on the caffeine and mention it to your pharmacist or doctor.

What Is Terbinafine Used For?

Brand name: Lamisil

Terbinafine tablets are used to treat onychomycosis — a fungal infection of the fingernails or toenails caused by dermatophytes (a type of fungus). Before starting the tablets, a doctor will confirm the diagnosis with a nail test.

Topical terbinafine products — creams and sprays — treat athlete's foot (tinea pedis), jock itch (tinea cruris), and ringworm (tinea corporis) on the skin. They also relieve the itching, burning, cracking, and scaling that come with these infections. Lamisil AT Spray is indicated for athlete's foot between the toes specifically; its effectiveness on the bottom or sides of the foot is unknown.
