Oolong tea contains caffeine. Due to the CNS stimulant effects of the caffeine constituent of oolong tea, concomitant use with stimulant drugs can increase the risk of adverse effects.

Here's the simple version: modafinil already does a great job of keeping you awake and alert, and oolong tea brings its own dose of caffeine to the party. When you stack a stimulant beverage on top of a wakefulness medication, the stimulant-type effects can add up. Think along the lines of feeling jittery or restless, a racing or pounding heart, trouble winding down to sleep, headache, or a little bump in blood pressure.

This isn't a dangerous or hard-and-fast clash. It's really expert opinion based on the fact that both contain or act like stimulants, so it's more about comfort than emergency. A cup or two of oolong is usually fine for many people, but if you notice you feel wired or your heart is fluttery, that's worth mentioning to your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

About Modafinil

What Is Modafinil Used For?

Brand names: Provigil, Sparlon, Alertec

Modafinil (also sold as Provigil) is used to improve wakefulness in adults who experience excessive sleepiness due to narcolepsy, obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), or shift work disorder (SWD).

In OSA, modafinil treats the sleepiness — not the underlying airway obstruction itself. It is used alongside standard treatments such as CPAP (a breathing device worn during sleep), not as a replacement for them. If CPAP is appropriate for you, your doctor will want you to use it consistently even while taking modafinil.
