Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
QUINOLONE ANTIBIOTICS
Why this applies to Ofloxacin
Ofloxacin falls under QUINOLONE ANTIBIOTICS — the group Oolong Tea interacts with.
Oolong tea contains caffeine. Quinolones decrease caffeine clearance.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing to know if you're sipping oolong tea while taking ofloxacin: this antibiotic can slow down how fast your body clears caffeine. So the caffeine in your tea may hang around longer and build up a bit more than usual. The interaction works on the caffeine, not on the antibiotic itself, so your ofloxacin should still treat your infection just fine.
In real life, this might mean you feel more wired than expected, jittery, restless, a racing heart, or trouble sleeping. The good news is this is rated minor and is mostly theoretical, so a cup or two probably won't cause trouble for most folks. If you're caffeine-sensitive or notice these effects, just cut back on caffeinated drinks while you finish the course, and check with your pharmacist or doctor if you have questions.

About Oolong Tea
What is Oolong Tea?
- Weight management
- Mental alertness and energy
- Heart health
- Blood sugar support
- Antioxidant support
Oolong tea is a traditional partially oxidized tea made from the same plant as green and black tea, and it provides caffeine and plant antioxidants. As a beverage it is generally considered safe for most healthy adults in moderate amounts, but evidence for specific health benefits like weight loss or blood sugar control is limited. If you have heart, blood pressure, or caffeine-sensitivity concerns, talk with your pharmacist or doctor.
About Ofloxacin
What Is Ofloxacin Used For?
Brand names: Oflox, Floxin, Floxin Injection, Floxin Otic
Ofloxacin is used in several different forms, each approved for specific infections. The otic (ear) solution treats outer ear infections (otitis externa) in patients 6 months and older, chronic middle ear infections with a ruptured eardrum (chronic suppurative otitis media) in patients 12 and older, and acute middle ear infections in children 1 year and older who have ear tubes. The ophthalmic (eye) solution — including the brand Ocuflox — treats bacterial conjunctivitis (pink eye) and bacterial corneal ulcers.
Ofloxacin oral tablets treat adults with mild to moderate bacterial infections including community-acquired pneumonia, skin and skin structure infections, gonorrhea, chlamydial infections of the urethra or cervix, mixed urethral/cervical infections, and acute pelvic inflammatory disease. The oral tablet is also used for acute bacterial exacerbations of chronic bronchitis and uncomplicated cystitis, but only when no other treatment options are available, due to serious risk concerns with this drug class.
