Thioridazine falls under PHENOTHIAZINES — the group Oolong Tea interacts with.

Theoretically, phenothiazines might increase the levels and adverse effects of caffeine in oolong tea.
Oolong tea contains caffeine. Phenothiazines can reduce the metabolism of caffeine by inhibiting cytochrome P450 1A2 (CYP1A2).

Here's the thing to notice with this pair: it's actually the caffeine in your oolong tea that gets affected, not the thioridazine itself. Thioridazine can mildly slow down a liver enzyme called CYP1A2, which is the same enzyme your body uses to clear caffeine. So in theory the caffeine could hang around a little longer and feel a bit stronger.

In real life that might mean a touch more jitteriness, a faster heartbeat, or trouble sleeping if you drink several cups. I'll be honest with you though, this is based mostly on lab data, not strong human studies, so it's a minor concern. If you keep your tea to moderate amounts you're likely fine. Since thioridazine itself can affect heart rhythm, just mention your caffeine habits to your pharmacist or doctor.

What Is Thioridazine Used For?

Brand name: Mellaril

Thioridazine Hydrochloride tablets are used for the management of schizophrenia — but only in patients who have already tried at least two other antipsychotic medications without adequate results, either because those drugs didn't work well enough or caused intolerable side effects.

Because thioridazine carries serious heart-rhythm risks, it is considered a last-resort option for schizophrenia, not a first-line treatment. It is not approved for dementia-related psychosis or any other psychiatric condition.
