Here's the thing to notice: this interaction actually runs in the other direction from what you might expect. It's not that oolong tea changes how well your ella (ulipristal) works. Instead, contraceptive medications can slow down how fast your body clears caffeine, by roughly 40% to 65%. So the caffeine from your tea may stick around longer and hit a little harder.

In practice that might mean feeling more jittery, a faster heartbeat, trouble sleeping, or a touch of an upset stomach. This is mostly theoretical and considered minor, and ella is a single one-time dose, so the effect is short-lived. If you're caffeine-sensitive, just go easy on the tea that day. Ella (ulipristal acetate) is used to prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex or when another form of birth control has failed or was used incorrectly. It must be taken as soon as possible, within 5 days (120 hours) of that event.

Ella is intended for occasional, emergency use only — it is not a substitute for regular, ongoing contraception.
