Puravive contains Panax ginseng. Panax ginseng is thought to have an additive effect with drugs that prolong the QT interval, potentially increasing the risk of ventricular arrhythmias. However, research findings on this matter are conflicting. Here's the thing to know about Kisqali (ribociclib): it's already a medication that can stretch out the heart's electrical recovery time, something we call the QT interval. Your cancer team usually checks your heart rhythm with EKGs and watches your blood minerals because of this.

Puravive contains Panax ginseng, which some short-term studies suggest can also nudge the QT interval a little longer. Stacking the two could, in theory, add up and raise the chance of an irregular heartbeat. I want to be honest though: the ginseng research is mixed, and longer-term use didn't show this effect. So this is a possible, not a proven, concern. Since ribociclib is a serious heart-sensitive drug, please run Puravive by your oncologist or pharmacist before adding it.

Ribociclib Succinate also falls under Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates.

Puravive contains Panax ginseng. Panax ginseng has the potential to affect the breakdown of drugs that are metabolized by an enzyme called CYP3A4. One example of such a drug is imatinib. There was a case where imatinib was thought to have caused liver damage, and it was believed that this might have been due to Panax ginseng inhibiting CYP3A4, which is involved in imatinib's metabolism (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/20332334/). On the other hand, Panax ginseng has been found to increase the breakdown of another drug called midazolam, which is also metabolized by CYP3A4 (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/21646440/), suggesting Panax ginseng induces CYP3A4 in some cases (i.e., makes more potent). Given these contradictory findings, it is important to use Panax ginseng cautiously if you are taking medications that are metabolized by CYP3A4, as the interaction between Panax ginseng and these drugs is not fully understood.

Here's the situation with Kisqali (ribociclib) and Puravive. Puravive contains Panax ginseng, and your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear ribociclib. The catch is that ginseng has done both things in studies: in one report it seemed to block this enzyme, and in another it seemed to speed it up. So we honestly can't predict which way it would push your ribociclib levels.

If levels were nudged up, you might see more nausea, low blood counts, fatigue, or heart rhythm changes (this drug can affect the QT interval). If levels dropped, the medicine might not work as well against your cancer. This is a cancer therapy where steady levels really matter, so please don't add Puravive without first checking with your oncologist or pharmacist.

What Is Ribociclib Used For?

Brand name: Kisqali

Kisqali (ribociclib) tablets are used in adults with hormone receptor (HR)-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer. For early breast cancer (stage II or III, at high risk of coming back), Kisqali is given alongside an aromatase inhibitor as adjuvant treatment — meaning treatment after initial surgery to reduce the risk of the cancer returning.

For advanced or metastatic breast cancer (cancer that has spread), Kisqali is used in combination with either an aromatase inhibitor or fulvestrant — as the first hormonal treatment tried, or after the cancer has grown despite prior hormone therapy.
