ANTIDIABETES DRUGS
Why this applies to rosiglitazone, glimepiride
rosiglitazone, glimepiride falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Sida Cordifolia interacts with.
Sida cordifolia contains ephedrine. Clinical research shows that ephedrine can increase blood glucose levels.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Avandaryl is a combo pill that pairs rosiglitazone with glimepiride to help lower your blood sugar. Here's the catch with Sida cordifolia: it naturally contains ephedrine, a stimulant that has been shown to raise blood glucose. So instead of adding any risk of low blood sugar, this herb works against your medication and can make it harder to keep your numbers in range.
In plain terms, your Avandaryl may not control your sugar as well while you're taking this supplement, and you might see higher readings. The evidence here is fairly modest, but given that ephedrine can also stress the heart and blood pressure, this isn't a combination I'd recommend. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before using anything containing Sida cordifolia.

By severity: 2 major · 258 moderate · 48 minor.
From our pharmacist’s overview on the rosiglitazone, glimepiride page
“Siberian cocklebur worries me most on this page. Its seeds have caused severe, worsening drops in blood sugar in people, and rosiglitazone with glimepiride (Avandaryl) already pulls glucose down through two separate mechanisms, so these pairings deserve real vigilance.”

About Sida Cordifolia
What is Sida Cordifolia?
- Weight loss and energy
- Asthma and breathing problems
- Joint and muscle pain
- Fever and cough
- General fatigue or 'tonic'
Sida cordifolia (bala or country mallow) is a traditional Ayurvedic plant that naturally contains ephedrine, a powerful stimulant. Because of this, many supplements containing it have been banned or restricted, and it carries real risks to the heart and blood pressure. There is little reliable human evidence that it works, so most people should avoid it and talk with a pharmacist or doctor first.
