Telithromycin falls under QT INTERVAL-PROLONGING DRUGS — the group Sida Cordifolia interacts with.

Theoretically, Sida cordifolia might increase the risk of additive QT interval prolongation when taken with QT interval-prolonging drugs.
Sida cordifolia contains ephedrine. Clinical research shows that ephedrine from another herb, ephedra, can prolong the QT interval.

Here's the concern with pairing Sida cordifolia and telithromycin (Ketek). Telithromycin is already known to affect the heart's electrical rhythm by stretching out what's called the QT interval. Sida cordifolia contains ephedrine, a stimulant that can do the same thing. Put them together and you may add one effect on top of the other, which raises the risk of a dangerous irregular heartbeat.

Telithromycin isn't a prodrug here, so this isn't about your body activating or clearing it. It's simply two things nudging your heart rhythm in the same direction. Watch for warning signs like a racing or pounding heartbeat, dizziness, or fainting. The evidence is partly theoretical, but because both clearly touch the heart, I'd treat it seriously. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

  • Telithromycin is used to treat certain types of pneumonia (an infection of the lungs) that is caused by bacteria. Telithromycin is in a class of medications called ketolide antibiotics. It works by killing bacteria.

  • Antibiotics such as telithromycin not work for colds, flu, or other viral infections. Taking antibiotics when they are not needed increases your risk of getting an infection later that resists antibiotic treatment.
