These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Tianeptine interacts with whole categories of medication. Aspirin, Pentazocine falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Tianeptine in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
CNS DEPRESSANTS
1 of 2Why this applies to Aspirin, Pentazocine
Aspirin, Pentazocine falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Tianeptine interacts with.
Higher doses of tianeptine have opioid like effects and may have additive effects with other sedative drugs. In one case report, a 42-year-old male presented with respiratory depression and aspiration pneumonia due to concomitant use of high-dose tianeptine and alprazolam.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Talwin Compound combines aspirin with pentazocine, and pentazocine is an opioid pain reliever. That's the part that matters here. Both pentazocine and high-dose tianeptine can slow down your brain and your breathing, so taking them together may stack those effects on top of each other. The bigger worry is too much sedation: feeling very drowsy, confused, dizzy, or having slowed, shallow breathing. In a reported case, someone mixing high-dose tianeptine with another sedative ended up with dangerous breathing trouble.
This caution is based on how these drugs work rather than strong studies, so it's a possible concern, not a sure thing. Still, since tianeptine sold in stores is unregulated and risky on its own, please talk with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

ASPIRIN
2 of 2Aspirin is converted to salicylic acid in the body. In vitro research shows that salicylic acid binds to the same protein sites as tianeptine, displacing protein-bound tianeptine and leading to higher levels of tianeptine in the blood.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Your product, Talwin Compound, combines aspirin with pentazocine (an opioid pain reliever). The piece that matters here is the aspirin. In the body, aspirin turns into salicylic acid, and lab studies suggest that salicylic acid can bump tianeptine off the proteins it normally clings to in your blood. The result could be more free, active tianeptine floating around than expected.
Why care? Tianeptine itself acts on opioid receptors at higher doses, and you would already be taking an opioid (pentazocine). Stacking these could mean more drowsiness, slowed breathing, confusion, or constipation. Keep in mind this is based only on test-tube research, so it's a theoretical concern, not a proven one. Honestly, I'd steer clear of unregulated tianeptine products entirely. Please talk with your pharmacist or doctor before combining anything.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Aspirin, Pentazocine page
“Talwin Compound pairs pentazocine, an opioid painkiller, with aspirin, and I read its supplement list with more concern than most. The great majority of entries do one of two things: raise the bleeding risk that aspirin already carries, or deepen the sedation pentazocine causes.”

About Tianeptine
What is Tianeptine?
- Depression (prescription use in some countries)
- Anxiety
- Mood enhancement
- Pain relief
- Self-treatment of opioid withdrawal
- Recreational euphoria
Tianeptine is a prescription antidepressant in some countries, but it is NOT approved by the FDA in the United States and is illegally sold in dietary supplements and 'gas station' products. At high doses it acts like an opioid and carries serious risks of addiction, overdose, and dangerous withdrawal. We strongly advise against using over-the-counter tianeptine products and urge anyone considering it to talk with a doctor or pharmacist first.
