HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Tulsi Moringa by Organic India
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
Tulsi Moringa is a tea made with 4 active ingredients: organic moringa, holy basil (also called tulsi and East Indian basil), lemongrass, and a proprietary organic blend. There are no inactive ingredients listed.
Each of these has a long history in traditional use, but modern evidence for what they actually do is still limited.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence we hold doesn't establish that moringa works for iron-deficiency anemia, asthma, athletic performance, diabetes, HIV/AIDS, or high cholesterol — the data is insufficient. Holy basil similarly shows insufficient evidence for generalized anxiety, asthma, headache, respiratory infections, dental plaque, or diabetes.
Lemongrass also lacks sufficient evidence for headache, common cold, cough, diabetes, epilepsy, or fatigue. In short, none of these ingredients have a rating we can point to as proven effective for any condition.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Moringa leaf products appear generally well tolerated when used as a food, though high-quality safety data are limited. The most common side effect is transient diarrhea — in one trial, about one in four people taking 8 grams daily experienced it.
Rare allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, have been reported, and a handful of cases of Stevens-Johnson syndrome (a serious skin condition) have been linked to moringa leaves. Avoid medicinal amounts of moringa root and bark, as they may stimulate the uterus and safety data are lacking.
Holy basil is generally well tolerated short-term, with loose stools and nausea reported by a small number of trial participants. The safety data advise against holy basil during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Lemongrass is likely safe in food amounts, but concentrated extracts and essential oil have limited safety data, so avoid medicinal amounts.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you take this product, double-check medications in these categories: CYP3A4 substrates (a huge class including many cholesterol, blood pressure, and immunosuppressant drugs), blood thinners (anticoagulants like warfarin, or antiplatelet drugs), diabetes medications, glucuronidated drugs, levothyroxine (thyroid hormone), and sedatives like pentobarbital. No interactions are documented for the individual medications we could not check, but that doesn't mean none exist.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This is a tea blend of four herbs with a long traditional history but insufficient evidence for any modern health claim. If you're on any prescription medications — especially blood thinners, diabetes drugs, thyroid hormone, sedatives, or anything metabolized by your liver — talk to your pharmacist before starting it.
It's generally well tolerated as a food, but it's not a treatment.

Tulsi Moringa by Organic India Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Tulsi Moringa by Organic India contains four active ingredients, and together they interact with a substantial number of medications across multiple drug categories.
The most serious interactions are Moderate severity.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Moringa is the ingredient with the broadest interaction profile. It theoretically affects drugs metabolized by the liver enzyme CYP3A4 (a very large class that includes many common medications) — moringa may either increase or decrease their levels, depending on which effect dominates in your body.
It also theoretically reduces how well levothyroxine (thyroid hormone) works by blocking its conversion in your body, and may increase levels of P-glycoprotein substrates, a transport-dependent drug class. Additionally, animal research suggests moringa might lower blood sugar, so there's a theoretical risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) if you're on diabetes medication, though human evidence is inconsistent.
Holy Basil (also called Tulsi or East Indian Basil — both are the same plant) adds Moderate-severity interactions with blood thinners (anticoagulants/antiplatelets), diabetes drugs (again, risk of low blood sugar), and pentobarbital (a sedative). Lemongrass brings similar concerns: it may slow metabolism of CYP3A4 drugs, speed clearance of glucuronidated drugs (another major liver-processed class), and increase sedative effects of pentobarbital.
Altogether, these interactions span 949 individual medications. Because that number is so large, checking your exact medications with the search tool on this page before you start is really important.

organic Moringa
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, moringa might increase or decrease levels of CYP3A4 substrates.
Some in vitro research suggests that moringa inhibits cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4). However, other in vitro research suggests that moringa extract induces CYP3A4 enzymes. A pharmacokinetic study in patients with HIV shows no change in the pharmacokinetics of nevirapine, which is partially metabolized by CYP3A4, when administered concomitantly with moringa leaf powder 1.85 grams daily for 14 days.
Levothyroxine (Synthroid, Others)
Theoretically, moringa leaf can antagonize the effects of levothyroxine.
Animal research suggests that moringa aqueous leaf extract might reduce serum triiodothyronine (T3) concentrations by inhibiting the peripheral conversion of thyroxine (T4) to T3.
P-Glycoprotein Substrates
Theoretically, moringa leaf extract might increase the levels and clinical effects of P-glycoprotein substrates.
In vitro research shows that moringa leaf extract inhibits renal P-glycoprotein transport activity. So far, this reaction has not been reported in humans.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, moringa might have additive effects when used with antidiabetes drugs; however, research is conflicting.
Animal research shows that moringa can lower blood glucose levels. However, research in humans has not shown consistent blood glucose lowering effects.
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, moringa might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research shows that moringa extract induces CYP1A2 enzymes.
Nevirapine (Viramune)
Moringa leaf is unlikely to have a clinically significant interaction with nevirapine.
Nevirapine is partially metabolized by cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4). In vitro evidence suggests that moringa inhibits CYP3A4. However, a pharmacokinetic study in patients with HIV shows no change in nevirapine pharmacokinetics when administered concomitantly with moringa leaf powder 1.85 grams daily for 14 days.
organic Lemongrass
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, lemongrass might decrease the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates.
Animal research shows that lemongrass and its constituent citral inhibit CYP3A4.
Glucuronidated Drugs
Theoretically, lemongrass might increase the clearance and decrease the levels of glucuronidated drugs.
Animal research shows that lemongrass and its constituent citral induce uridine diphosphoglucuronosyl transferase (UGT), the major phase 2 enzyme that is responsible for glucuronidation.
Pentobarbital (Nembutal)
Theoretically, lemongrass might increase the effects and adverse effects of pentobarbital.
Animal research shows that high doses of lemongrass essential oil increases sleep time and decreases time to fall asleep in animals administered pentobarbital.
organic Tulsi (Holy Basil) Blend
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, holy basil seed oil might increase the risk of bleeding when used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
Animal research shows that holy basil seed oil can prolong bleeding time, possibly due to inhibition of platelet aggregation. However, it is not known if this occurs in humans.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, holy basil might increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetes drugs.
Small clinical studies show that taking holy basil can decrease fasting blood glucose and other measures of glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes.
Pentobarbital (Nembutal)
Theoretically, holy basil seed oil might increase the sedative effects of pentobarbital.
Animal research shows that holy basil seed oil increases pentobarbitone-induced sleeping time. However, it is not known if this occurs in humans or if this applies to other barbiturates or sedatives.
