Here's the honest picture with lumateperone (Caplyta) and andrographis. The interaction we have on file is really about immune-suppressing medicines, where this herb's lab-tested ability to rev up the immune system might work against those drugs. Lumateperone is an antipsychotic, not an immunosuppressant, so this particular concern doesn't translate neatly to it. The evidence behind the interaction is also weak, coming from test tube and animal research only.

That said, I can't promise a totally clean bill of health, because andrographis hasn't been well studied alongside Caplyta. To stay safe and make sure your schizophrenia treatment keeps working as it should, please run it by your pharmacist or prescriber before adding the herb.

What Is Lumateperone Used For?

Brand name: Caplyta

Caplyta (lumateperone) is approved for adults with schizophrenia, depressive episodes associated with bipolar I or II disorder (bipolar depression), and as an add-on treatment for major depressive disorder (MDD).

For bipolar depression, Caplyta can be used on its own or alongside lithium or valproate. For MDD, Caplyta is used together with an antidepressant — not on its own as a standalone antidepressant.
