Aliskiren falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Bacopa interacts with.

Theoretically, bacopa might increase the levels and adverse effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
Research on the effects of bacopa extracts on CYP3A4 enzymes is conflicting. Some in vitro evidence suggests that bacopa extract can moderately and competitively inhibit CYP3A4, while other in vitro evidence suggests that any effect is unlikely to be clinically significant.

Here's the gist with bacopa and your blood pressure medicine, aliskiren (Tekturna). Aliskiren is partly handled by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In lab dish studies, bacopa might slow that enzyme down a bit, which could let a little more aliskiren build up in your system. If that happened, you might notice slightly stronger effects like dizziness, lightheadedness, or a blood pressure that runs lower than usual.

The important part: this is only a theoretical concern from test-tube research, and the studies actually disagree with each other. We don't have real-world cases showing a problem. Still, since both can affect blood pressure, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before starting bacopa, just so they can keep an eye on things.

Bacopa is an Ayurvedic herb most often used for memory and thinking. Some small studies suggest it may modestly help memory when taken regularly for several weeks, but the evidence is limited and quality varies. Aliskiren and Tekturna tablets are both approved to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and in children who are at least 6 years old and weigh 50 kg (about 110 lbs) or more. Lowering high blood pressure reduces the risk of serious events like strokes and heart attacks.

Managing blood pressure is usually part of a broader plan that may also include diet changes, exercise, cholesterol control, and other medications. Many people need more than one blood pressure drug to reach their goal.
