Dexlansoprazole falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C19 (CYP2C19) SUBSTRATES — the group Bacopa interacts with.

Theoretically, bacopa might increase the levels and adverse effects of CYP2C19 substrates.
In vitro evidence suggests that bacopa extract can moderately and non-competitively inhibit CYP2C19 enzymes. It is not known whether this is clinically significant.

Here's the simple version. Your body clears dexlansoprazole (Dexilant) mostly through a liver enzyme called CYP2C19. In lab dishes, bacopa appears to slow that same enzyme down a bit. If that happened in real life, dexlansoprazole could linger a little longer and build up, which might mean somewhat stronger or more frequent side effects like headache, diarrhea, nausea, or gas.

The good news: this is only a theoretical, test-tube finding. We don't have human studies showing it actually causes a problem, and dexlansoprazole is a pretty forgiving, well-tolerated medicine. I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, if you plan to take a concentrated bacopa supplement regularly, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on how you feel.

Theoretically, bacopa might increase the levels and adverse effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
Research on the effects of bacopa extracts on CYP3A4 enzymes is conflicting. Some in vitro evidence suggests that bacopa extract can moderately and competitively inhibit CYP3A4, while other in vitro evidence suggests that any effect is unlikely to be clinically significant.

Here's the simple version. Your acid reducer, dexlansoprazole, is partly cleared by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In test-tube studies, bacopa might slow that enzyme down a bit. If it did, your body could clear the drug a little slower and levels could nudge up, which in theory could mean more of dexlansoprazole's usual side effects like headache, nausea, diarrhea, or gas.

The good news: this is only a theoretical concern based on lab data, and the research even disagrees with itself. For most people the effect, if any, is likely small. Dexlansoprazole is also a pretty forgiving medicine. Still, if you plan to take bacopa regularly and notice new stomach upset or headaches, just check in with your pharmacist or doctor.

Bacopa is an Ayurvedic herb most often used for memory and thinking. Some small studies suggest it may modestly help memory when taken regularly for several weeks, but the evidence is limited and quality varies. It is generally well tolerated but can cause stomach upset, and it should be avoided in pregnancy and breastfeeding due to a lack of safety data.

What Is Dexlansoprazole Used For?

Brand name: Dexilant Solutab

Dexlansoprazole delayed-release capsules — sold as Dexilant and available as a generic — are used in patients 12 years of age and older to heal erosive esophagitis (EE), which is damage to the esophagus caused by stomach acid. They are also used to keep that damage healed and relieve heartburn over time.

In addition, dexlansoprazole treats heartburn from non-erosive gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) — that is, acid reflux that causes symptoms without visible damage to the esophagus. Both Dexilant and generic dexlansoprazole delayed-release capsules share these same approved uses.
