Amiloride, Hydrochlorothiazide falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Breadfruit interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension. Animal research shows that breadfruit leaf extract can decrease heart rate and weaken the force of heart muscle contractions, which may lower blood pressure.
Some antihypertensive drugs include captopril (Capoten), enalapril (Vasotec), losartan (Cozaar), valsartan (Diovan), diltiazem (Cardizem), amlodipine (Norvasc), hydrochlorothiazide (HydroDIURIL), furosemide (Lasix), and many others.

Here's the basic idea: your Moduretic combo (amiloride plus hydrochlorothiazide) already works to lower blood pressure by helping your kidneys flush out extra salt and water. Concentrated breadfruit leaf products may push in the same direction. In animal studies, breadfruit leaf extract slowed the heart and weakened how hard it pumped, which can nudge blood pressure down too. Stack that on top of your water pill and, in theory, your pressure could dip too low.

If that happened, you might feel dizzy, lightheaded, tired, or woozy when standing up. I'll be honest though, this is theoretical and based only on lab and animal work, so it's far from certain. Eating breadfruit as food is unlikely to be an issue. If you're using leaf teas or extracts, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Amiloride and Hydrochlorothiazide Used For?

Brand names: Moduretic, Amilzide, Moduret 25, Amil-Co

Amiloride hydrochloride and hydrochlorothiazide tablets are used for patients with high blood pressure (hypertension) or congestive heart failure who tend to develop low potassium (hypokalemia) when taking a thiazide or other diuretic alone — or for whom keeping potassium levels in a normal range is especially important, such as people taking digoxin or those with significant heart rhythm problems.

The tablets may be used on their own or alongside other blood pressure medicines, such as methyldopa or beta blockers. This combination product is not intended as the first-choice treatment for swelling (edema) or high blood pressure unless low potassium is a specific concern.
