Glucose falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Cajeput Oil interacts with.

Animal studies suggest that cajeput oil might have hypoglycemic effects. Theoretically, taking cajeput oil with antidiabetes drugs could increase the risk for additive hypoglycemia. Monitor blood glucose levels closely. Some antidiabetes drugs include glimepiride (Amaryl), glyburide (DiaBeta, Glynase PresTab, Micronase), insulin, and others.

Here's a little wrinkle with this one. Glucose (the sugar itself, often given by mouth or IV) isn't a typical diabetes medication. It's actually what we use to raise low blood sugar, for example when someone is having a hypoglycemic episode. So the concern listed for diabetes drugs doesn't apply in the usual way.

The interaction on file is only theoretical, based on animal research suggesting cajeput oil might lower blood sugar a touch. If anything, that would work against glucose's job of bringing sugar back up, but the evidence here is very weak. Essential oils like cajeput should never be swallowed anyway. If you're using glucose to treat lows, just check in with your pharmacist or doctor before adding cajeput oil.
