Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Chlorpheniramine, Methscopolamine, Pseudoephedrine
Chlorpheniramine, Methscopolamine, Pseudoephedrine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Ceylon Leadwort interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
This combination cold-and-allergy product blends an antihistamine (chlorpheniramine), a drying agent (methscopolamine), and a decongestant (pseudoephedrine). A compound in Ceylon Leadwort called plumbagin has been shown, only in lab dishes, to slow down the CYP3A4 enzyme. Since part of how your body clears chlorpheniramine relies on that enzyme, blocking it could in theory let drug levels creep up, leaving you with more drowsiness, dry mouth, blurry vision, constipation, or a racing or pounding heart from the pseudoephedrine.
I want to be honest though: this is theoretical and based on test-tube work, not real people. The effect, if any, may be small. Still, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing the two.
