These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Ceylon Leadwort interacts with whole categories of medication. Dextromethorphan, Guaifenesin, Phenylpropanolamine falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Ceylon Leadwort in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES
1 of 2Why this applies to Dextromethorphan, Guaifenesin, Phenylpropanolamine
Dextromethorphan, Guaifenesin, Phenylpropanolamine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Ceylon Leadwort interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Out of the three ingredients in Profen LA, the one to focus on here is the dextromethorphan (the cough suppressant). Your liver clears it using an enzyme called CYP2D6. In lab studies (not in people yet), the plumbagin in Ceylon Leadwort appears to slow that same enzyme down. If that held true in the body, dextromethorphan could build up a bit and hang around longer.
Practically, that might mean more dizziness, drowsiness, or in larger amounts feeling spacey or restless. I want to stress this is theoretical and comes only from test-tube work, so the real-world risk is likely small. The guaifenesin and phenylpropanolamine aren't affected this way. Still, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist before combining them.

CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
2 of 2Dextromethorphan, Guaifenesin, Phenylpropanolamine also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version for this combo product (Profen LA). One ingredient, dextromethorphan (the cough suppressant), is partly broken down by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In lab dishes, the plumbagin in Ceylon Leadwort slows that same enzyme down. In theory, that could let dextromethorphan build up a bit, which might mean more drowsiness, dizziness, or feeling foggy. The guaifenesin and phenylpropanolamine pieces aren't really cleared this way, so they shouldn't be affected.
The honest part: this is only test-tube evidence and hasn't been seen in real people, so the actual risk is likely small. Still, since I can't be certain, it's worth a quick check with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing them.
