Eculizumab falls under IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS — the group Ceylon Leadwort interacts with.

Plumbagin, a constituent of Ceylon leadwort, has demonstrated immunosuppressant activity in animal research. Theoretically, Ceylon leadwort might interfere with immunosuppressive therapy. Immunosuppressant drugs include azathioprine (Imuran), basiliximab (Simulect), cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune), daclizumab (Zenapax), muromonab-CD3 (OKT3, Orthoclone OKT3), mycophenolate (CellCept), tacrolimus (FK506, Prograf), sirolimus (Rapamune), prednisone (Deltasone, Orasone), corticosteroids (glucocorticoids), and others.

Here's the thing to keep in mind with Soliris (eculizumab): it's a powerful medication that quiets down part of your immune system, and it's given as an infusion for serious conditions like PNH, aHUS, or certain forms of myasthenia gravis. The concern with Ceylon Leadwort is that its main compound, plumbagin, has shown its own effects on the immune system in lab and animal studies. In theory, mixing the two could nudge your immune activity in an unpredictable way and make it harder to know whether your treatment is doing its job.

I want to be honest that this is a theoretical worry, not something proven in people. Still, with a drug this important, I wouldn't add Ceylon Leadwort on your own. Please run it by your doctor or pharmacist first.

Ceylon Leadwort (Plumbago zeylanica) is a plant long used in Ayurvedic and other traditional medicine systems, mainly for digestion, skin problems, and pain. Solid human studies are lacking, and the plant contains plumbagin, a compound that can irritate skin and tissues and may be unsafe in larger amounts. Talk to a pharmacist or doctor before using it, and avoid it in pregnancy.

About Eculizumab Injection

What Is Eculizumab Injection Used For?

Brand name: Soliris

Eculizumab injection (brands: Soliris, EPYSQLI) is used to treat four serious conditions. It treats paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH), a rare blood disorder where red blood cells are destroyed, and atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome (aHUS), a disease that causes dangerous blood clots in small vessels. It is not approved for hemolytic uremic syndrome caused by Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC-HUS).

Eculizumab injection is also used for generalized myasthenia gravis (gMG) in adults and children 6 years and older who test positive for anti-acetylcholine receptor (AChR) antibodies, and for neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) in adults who test positive for anti-aquaporin-4 (AQP4) antibodies.
