Fenfluamine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Ceylon Leadwort interacts with.

Plumbagin, a constituent of Ceylon leadwort, has been shown to inhibit cytochrome P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) in vitro. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. Theoretically, Ceylon leadwort might increase the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2. Some substrates of CYP1A2 include clozapine (Clozaril), cyclobenzaprine (Flexeril), fluvoxamine (Luvox), haloperidol (Haldol), imipramine (Tofranil), mexiletine (Mexitil), olanzapine (Zyprexa), pentazocine (Talwin), propranolol (Inderal), tacrine (Cognex), zileuton (Zyflo), zolmitriptan (Zomig), and others.

Here's the quick picture for Fenfluramine (Fintepla). One compound in Ceylon Leadwort, called plumbagin, has been shown in test-tube studies to slow down a liver enzyme called CYP1A2, which helps your body break down certain medicines. If Fenfluramine relies on that pathway, the theory is that its levels could creep up, which might mean stronger effects or more side effects like drowsiness, loss of appetite, tiredness, or changes in heart rate or blood pressure.

I want to be honest with you though: this is based only on lab research, not real people, so we genuinely don't know if it matters in everyday use. Since Fenfluramine is a serious seizure medicine that needs careful monitoring, please loop in your pharmacist or doctor before adding Ceylon Leadwort rather than making any changes on your own.

Plumbagin, a constituent of Ceylon leadwort, has been shown to inhibit cytochrome P450 2B6 (CYP2B6) in vitro. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. Theoretically, Ceylon leadwort might increase the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2B6. Drugs that are metabolized by CYP2B6 include ketamine (Ketalar), phenobarbital, orphenadrine (Norflex), secobarbital (Seconal), and dexamethasone (Decadron).

Here's the gist for Fintepla (fenfluramine). One compound in Ceylon Leadwort, called plumbagin, slowed down a liver enzyme named CYP2B6 in test-tube studies. Since fenfluramine is partly broken down by that same enzyme, the worry is that the supplement could let fenfluramine build up a bit. Fenfluramine is the active drug itself (not a prodrug), so more of it usually means stronger effects and more side effects, things like drowsiness, tiredness, loss of appetite, or in rare cases heart-related concerns that this medicine is already watched for.

That said, this is purely theoretical right now. It comes from lab work, not real people, so we genuinely don't know if it matters in the body. Because seizure control is so important, please don't change anything on your own. Just run the supplement by your child's neurologist or pharmacist first.

Ceylon Leadwort (Plumbago zeylanica) is a plant long used in Ayurvedic and other traditional medicine systems, mainly for digestion, skin problems, and pain. Solid human studies are lacking, and the plant contains plumbagin, a compound that can irritate skin and tissues and may be unsafe in larger amounts. What Is Fenfluramine Used For?

Brand name: Fintepla

Fintepla (fenfluramine oral solution) is approved to treat seizures associated with Dravet syndrome (DS) and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS) in patients 2 years of age and older. It is used alongside other antiseizure medications.

Both conditions are severe, often hard-to-control forms of epilepsy that typically begin in childhood. Fintepla is available only through a restricted program called the Fintepla REMS because of serious heart-related risks.
