Ceylon Leadwort + Mepolizumab
Mepolizumab brand name: Nucala.
We found no known interaction between Ceylon Leadwort and Mepolizumab in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first.
Ceylon Leadwort and Mepolizumab
We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.
No Known Interaction Found
We did not find a documented interaction between Mepolizumab and Ceylon Leadwort in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.
If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.
Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

What Mepolizumab Is Prescribed For, and What Ceylon Leadwort Has Been Studied For
These two come up together because they touch the same health topic — not because they do the same job. Mepolizumab is a prescription medicine with approved uses on its FDA label. Ceylon Leadwort is a supplement: what follows is what researchers have looked at it for, and how strong that evidence is.
Mepolizumab is prescribed for: Nucala is used as an add-on maintenance treatment — meaning it works alongside other medications, not instead of them. It is approved for severe asthma (in patients 6 years and older with high eosinophil levels), chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) in adults 18 and older whose symptoms aren't controlled by nasal corticosteroids alone, and COPD in adults with an eosinophilic phenotype whose disease isn't adequately controlled. Nucala is also approved to treat eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA), a rare form of blood vessel inflammation, and hypereosinophilic syndrome (HES), a condition involving dangerously elevated eosinophil counts, in adults and adolescents 12 and older. It is not meant to relieve sudden asthma attacks or acute COPD flares.

Ceylon Leadwort for asthma
Preliminary clinical research in children 5 years of age and older with asthma shows that taking an Ayurvedic medicine (amrita bindu) containing Ceylon leadwort and other herbs for 12 months reduces the need for asthma medications, improves expiration by up to 65%, and improves symptoms when compared to baseline. The validity of this finding is limited by the lack of a comparator group.

Effectiveness ratings and the research summaries above are the verbatim record from the Natural Medicines database, which grades evidence from “Effective” down to “Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate”. A rating below the top of that scale means researchers have looked at it — not that it works, and never that it can stand in for a prescribed medicine. Do not stop or replace Mepolizumab on your own; if you are taking Ceylon Leadwort for the same health topic, tell your prescriber, especially if the medicine is being adjusted to a target.

About Ceylon Leadwort
What is Ceylon Leadwort?
- Digestive complaints and poor appetite
- Skin conditions and wounds (applied to the skin)
- Joint pain and swelling
- Traditional 'metabolism-boosting' tonics
- Antimicrobial folk remedy
Ceylon Leadwort (Plumbago zeylanica) is a plant long used in Ayurvedic and other traditional medicine systems, mainly for digestion, skin problems, and pain. Solid human studies are lacking, and the plant contains plumbagin, a compound that can irritate skin and tissues and may be unsafe in larger amounts. Talk to a pharmacist or doctor before using it, and avoid it in pregnancy.
Plumbago zeylanica · Plumbaginaceae · Mainly the root and root bark; sometimes leaves · Dried root powder, decoctions, traditional pastes and oils, and capsules
An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Ceylon Leadwort is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Ceylon Leadwort record says about it on its own.
Ceylon Leadwort: dosing
There is no well-established or standardized dose for Ceylon Leadwort. Traditional preparations vary widely, and the amount of plumbagin in a product can be hard to know.If you choose to use a commercial product, follow the directions on the label and do not exceed them. Because of safety concerns, it is best to start only after talking with a pharmacist or doctor. Do not use the raw plant on your skin or take homemade preparations without guidance.
