Mycophenolate Mofetil falls under IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS — the group Ceylon Leadwort interacts with.

Plumbagin, a constituent of Ceylon leadwort, has demonstrated immunosuppressant activity in animal research. Theoretically, Ceylon leadwort might interfere with immunosuppressive therapy. Immunosuppressant drugs include azathioprine (Imuran), basiliximab (Simulect), cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune), daclizumab (Zenapax), muromonab-CD3 (OKT3, Orthoclone OKT3), mycophenolate (CellCept), tacrolimus (FK506, Prograf), sirolimus (Rapamune), prednisone (Deltasone, Orasone), corticosteroids (glucocorticoids), and others.

Here's the situation with CellCept and Ceylon Leadwort. Your transplant team has you on mycophenolate to gently hold your immune system back so it won't attack your new organ. The catch is that plumbagin, the active compound in Ceylon Leadwort, has shown its own immune-affecting activity in lab and animal studies. In theory, mixing the two could nudge how your immune system behaves in a way that's hard to predict, which really matters when keeping a transplant safe.

I'll be honest though: this is based on test-tube and animal research, not real patient cases, so it's more of a caution than a proven problem. Still, with something as important as anti-rejection therapy, I wouldn't add Ceylon Leadwort without first checking with your transplant doctor or pharmacist.

Ceylon Leadwort (Plumbago zeylanica) is a plant long used in Ayurvedic and other traditional medicine systems, mainly for digestion, skin problems, and pain. Solid human studies are lacking, and the plant contains plumbagin, a compound that can irritate skin and tissues and may be unsafe in larger amounts. What Is Mycophenolate Injection Used For?

Brand name: CellCept

Mycophenolate mofetil is used to prevent the body from rejecting a transplanted kidney, heart, or liver. It is always used alongside other immunosuppressant medicines, not on its own.

CellCept Intravenous (the injectable form) is specifically for transplant patients who are temporarily unable to take oral medication. It is given by IV infusion and is meant to bridge the gap until the patient can switch to an oral form of CellCept.
