These two interact in 3 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 3 Interactions?
Ceylon Leadwort interacts with whole categories of medication. Naproxen Sodium falls into 3 of those categories, so it can interact with Ceylon Leadwort in 3 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES
1 of 3Why this applies to Naproxen Sodium
Naproxen Sodium falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Ceylon Leadwort interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for naproxen (the pain reliever in Midol Extended Relief). A compound in Ceylon Leadwort called plumbagin has been shown to slow down a liver enzyme called CYP1A2 in lab dishes. Naproxen is partly handled by this enzyme, so in theory, blocking it could let naproxen build up a bit higher than usual. If that happened, you might notice more of naproxen's typical downsides, like stomach upset, heartburn, a higher chance of stomach irritation or bleeding, fluid retention, or kidney strain.
The important caveat: this is only test-tube evidence and has never actually been reported in people, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, since both can be hard on the stomach, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES
2 of 3Naproxen Sodium also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the basic idea: your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP2C9 to break down naproxen and clear it out. Ceylon Leadwort contains a compound called plumbagin, which in lab tests slowed that same enzyme down. If that happened in a person, naproxen could hang around longer and build up, meaning stronger effects and a higher chance of the usual naproxen side effects, like stomach upset, heartburn, ulcers or bleeding, fluid retention, and kidney strain.
The important part: this has only been seen in test-tube studies, never confirmed in real people, so the actual risk is uncertain and likely small. Still, since both can be hard on the stomach, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS
3 of 3Naproxen Sodium also falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist with naproxen (the pain reliever in Midol Extended Relief). Naproxen already nudges your blood toward thinner, since like other NSAIDs it makes platelets a little less sticky and can irritate the stomach lining. In animal studies, Ceylon Leadwort root also reduced platelet stickiness and lengthened bleeding time. Stack the two together and the theory is you might bruise more easily, bleed a bit longer from a cut, or be more prone to a stomach upset or bleed.
That said, this concern comes from lab and animal research only, not from people, so it's a caution rather than a proven problem. I wouldn't panic, but I would loop in your pharmacist or doctor before pairing them, especially if you take naproxen often.

About Ceylon Leadwort
What is Ceylon Leadwort?
- Digestive complaints and poor appetite
- Skin conditions and wounds (applied to the skin)
- Joint pain and swelling
- Traditional 'metabolism-boosting' tonics
- Antimicrobial folk remedy
Ceylon Leadwort (Plumbago zeylanica) is a plant long used in Ayurvedic and other traditional medicine systems, mainly for digestion, skin problems, and pain. Solid human studies are lacking, and the plant contains plumbagin, a compound that can irritate skin and tissues and may be unsafe in larger amounts. Talk to a pharmacist or doctor before using it, and avoid it in pregnancy.
