Ustekinumab falls under IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS — the group Ceylon Leadwort interacts with.

Plumbagin, a constituent of Ceylon leadwort, has demonstrated immunosuppressant activity in animal research. Theoretically, Ceylon leadwort might interfere with immunosuppressive therapy. Immunosuppressant drugs include azathioprine (Imuran), basiliximab (Simulect), cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune), daclizumab (Zenapax), muromonab-CD3 (OKT3, Orthoclone OKT3), mycophenolate (CellCept), tacrolimus (FK506, Prograf), sirolimus (Rapamune), prednisone (Deltasone, Orasone), corticosteroids (glucocorticoids), and others.

Here's the thing to keep in mind if you're using Stelara (ustekinumab) along with Ceylon Leadwort. Stelara works by calming down specific parts of your immune system to control psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, or Crohn's. In lab and animal studies, the plumbagin in Ceylon Leadwort has also shown some immune-tinkering activity. The worry is that the two could pull in different or unpredictable directions, which in theory might make your Stelara work less smoothly. That could look like a psoriasis flare or joint symptoms creeping back.

I want to be honest, though: this is based only on test-tube and animal research, not real people, so it's more of a caution than a proven problem. Still, since you're relying on Stelara to keep things under control, I'd run any supplement past your pharmacist or doctor before adding it.

What Is Ustekinumab Injection Used For?

Brand name: Stelara

Ustekinumab injection treats four immune-related conditions. It is approved for moderate to severe plaque psoriasis and active psoriatic arthritis in adults and children 6 years of age and older. It also treats moderately to severely active Crohn's disease in adults and children 2 years of age and older.

For moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis, ustekinumab injection is approved for adult patients only. A prescriber will determine which condition is being treated and choose the appropriate product, route, and dosing schedule.
