Here's the situation with goldenseal and your amphetamine. Goldenseal can slow down a liver enzyme called CYP2D6, which is one of the pathways your body uses to clear amphetamine. When that pathway gets blocked, amphetamine can hang around longer and build up to higher levels than usual.

In plain terms, that could mean a stronger or longer-lasting stimulant effect. Think things like a faster or pounding heartbeat, higher blood pressure, jitteriness, trouble sleeping, reduced appetite, or feeling on edge. This isn't a guaranteed reaction, and the human evidence behind it is only moderate, but it's worth taking seriously. Please don't change anything on your own. Check with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing goldenseal supplements with your medication.

What Is Amphetamine Used For?

Brand names: Dyanavel XR, Adensys XR-ODT, Mydayis, Adzenys ER

Amphetamine treats Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in patients 6 years and older. Adzenys XR-ODT, Dyanavel XR, and the amphetamine extended-release orally disintegrating tablet formulations are specifically approved for ADHD in this age group.

Amphetamine Sulfate tablets and Evekeo (amphetamine sulfate tablets) are also approved for narcolepsy (a sleep disorder causing uncontrollable daytime sleepiness) and as a short-term aid in a calorie-restricted weight-loss program for exogenous obesity (weight gain from external factors like overeating) in patients who have not responded to other approaches.
