Here's the idea behind this pairing. Melatonin can give your immune system a little nudge to be more active. Fludrocortisone (Florinef) is a corticosteroid that, among other things, can dial down immune activity. So in theory, melatonin could work against that immune-calming effect. The good news is this is mostly a theoretical concern, based on limited and lower-quality research, not something we see causing big problems day to day.

One thing worth knowing: most people take fludrocortisone not for immune suppression but to help the body hold onto salt and keep blood pressure up (for example with adrenal insufficiency or certain forms of low blood pressure). In those cases this interaction matters even less. Still, before adding melatonin, check with your pharmacist or doctor so they can weigh it for your situation.

Melatonin is a hormone your body makes naturally to help control your sleep-wake cycle, and the supplement form is widely used to help with sleep timing problems and jet lag. The evidence is strongest for certain circadian (body-clock) disorders and is more mixed for everyday insomnia. It is generally well tolerated for short-term use, but talk with your pharmacist or doctor before starting, especially for children or during pregnancy.
