Here's the simple version: Puravive contains quercetin, a plant compound that may nudge blood pressure down a little in people with mild high blood pressure. Epoprostenol (Flolan) is a powerful medicine given through a continuous IV pump to widen blood vessels and treat pulmonary hypertension. Because both can lower blood pressure, there's a theoretical chance that adding Puravive could add to its effect, possibly leading to dizziness, lightheadedness, flushing, or headache.

To be fair, this concern is rated minor and rests on weak evidence, and the small quercetin amount in a supplement may not matter much. Still, epoprostenol is a serious medication that is carefully dose-adjusted. Please loop in your doctor or pharmacist before adding Puravive so they can keep an eye on your blood pressure.

What Is Epoprostenol Used For?

Epoprostenol (available as the brands Epoprostenol, Flolan, and Veletri) is used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) — WHO Group 1, a type of high blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs. The goal is to improve how much physical activity patients can handle.

The clinical studies that established its effectiveness included mainly patients with moderate-to-severe symptoms (NYHA Functional Class III–IV) whose PAH was idiopathic (no known cause), heritable (genetic), or related to connective tissue diseases such as scleroderma.
