Uva Ursi + Ensartinib
Ensartinib brand name: Ensacove.
Ensartinib falls into 2 drug categories that Uva Ursi can interact with; the most serious is rated moderate. Theoretically, uva ursi may decrease the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates.

These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Uva Ursi interacts with whole categories of medication. Ensartinib falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Uva Ursi in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
1 of 2Why this applies to Ensartinib
Ensartinib falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Uva Ursi interacts with.
In vitro, uva ursi appears to inhibit CYP3A4. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the situation with Ensacove (ensartinib). This is an active cancer drug that your liver clears using an enzyme called CYP3A4. In lab dish testing, uva ursi seemed to slow that same enzyme down. If that were to happen in your body, ensartinib could clear more slowly and build up, which may increase side effects like nausea, rash, itching, swelling, fatigue, or changes in liver blood tests.
I want to be honest about the strength of this: it comes from test-tube data only and has never been shown in real people, so it's more of a theoretical caution than a proven problem. Still, with a cancer therapy I'd play it safe. Please check with your oncologist or pharmacist before combining these two.

P-GLYCOPROTEIN SUBSTRATES
2 of 2Ensartinib also falls under P-GLYCOPROTEIN SUBSTRATES.
In vitro, uva ursi appears to inhibit the multi-drug transporter protein, P-glycoprotein. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the situation with Ensartinib (Ensacove), your lung cancer medication, and uva ursi. Ensartinib is carried around your body partly by a transporter protein called P-glycoprotein, which acts like a gatekeeper controlling how much of the drug gets absorbed and moved out. In lab (test tube) studies, uva ursi seemed to block that gatekeeper. If that happened in a person, more ensartinib could stay in the body, which could theoretically mean stronger effects and more side effects like nausea, rash, or changes in liver enzymes.
The important part: this has only been seen in the lab, never in real people, and it's rated a minor interaction. So it's more of a caution than a real alarm. Still, since ensartinib is a serious cancer drug, please run any uva ursi use by your oncologist or pharmacist first.

What These Ratings Mean
Every interaction above is graded three ways — here’s the key to each label.
Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.
- LikelyWell-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.
- AHigh-quality meta-analysis (quantitative systematic review).
- BCase-control study.
- CConsensus.
- DAnecdotal evidence.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Ensartinib page
“Ensartinib (Ensacove) holds ALK-positive lung cancer in check, and I read this page as a genuine warning rather than fine print. Most of the entries can change how much of the drug actually reaches the bloodstream, because the body clears ensartinib through the CYP3A4 enzyme.”

About Uva Ursi
What is Uva Ursi?
- Urinary tract infections
- Urinary discomfort
- Mild diuretic
- Kidney stones
- Skin conditions
Uva ursi is a traditional herb used mainly for urinary tract infections, and its leaves contain a compound called arbutin that may have antimicrobial effects in the urine. Evidence in people is limited, and because high doses or long-term use may be harmful to the liver and could be toxic, it should only be used short-term and with guidance from a healthcare professional. Avoid it during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
