Raltegravir falls under GLUCURONIDATED DRUGS — the group Uva Ursi interacts with.

Theoretically, uva ursi may increase levels of drugs metabolized by glucuronidation.
In vitro, uva ursi extract appears to strongly inhibit UDP-glucuronosyltransferase (UGT) 1A1 (UGT1A1). However, uva ursi extract does not appear to inhibit UGT1A1 in animal models. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the short version on pairing uva ursi with raltegravir (Isentress). Your body clears raltegravir through a process called glucuronidation, mostly using an enzyme called UGT1A1. In a lab dish, uva ursi extract appeared to block that enzyme. If that were to happen in real life, raltegravir could build up a bit, which might mean more of its usual side effects like headache, nausea, trouble sleeping, or dizziness.

I want to be honest with you, though: this is theoretical. It showed up only in test-tube studies, did not appear in animal studies, and has never been reported in people. So I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, raltegravir is too important to your HIV treatment to guess with, so please run any uva ursi use past your pharmacist or doctor first.

Uva ursi is a traditional herb used mainly for urinary tract infections, and its leaves contain a compound called arbutin that may have antimicrobial effects in the urine. What Is Raltegravir Used For?

Brand name: Isentress

Raltegravir — available as Isentress and as the generic raltegravir tablet — is used to treat HIV-1 (human immunodeficiency virus) infection. It is always used together with other antiretroviral (anti-HIV) medicines, never on its own.

Isentress is approved for adults and for children weighing at least 2 kg. Raltegravir tablets are approved for adults and for children weighing at least 25 kg who can swallow a tablet whole.
