Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Sufentanil Citrate
Sufentanil Citrate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Uva Ursi interacts with.
In vitro, uva ursi appears to inhibit CYP3A4. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Sufentanil (brand Dsuvia) is a very strong opioid painkiller, and your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear it from your body. In lab dish studies, uva ursi seems to slow that same enzyme down. If that effect carried over into people, sufentanil could linger longer than expected and its effects could stack up. With an opioid this potent, that's worth respecting, because too much can mean heavy drowsiness, confusion, very slow breathing, or dangerously low breathing.
Here's the reassuring part: this is only test-tube data, and it has never actually been shown in humans, so the real-world risk is uncertain. Still, since sufentanil is so powerful, please loop in your pharmacist or doctor before pairing it with uva ursi rather than guessing.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Sufentanil Citrate page
“Anything sedating is the first hazard to understand with sufentanil citrate (Dsuvia), an opioid so potent that stacking another depressant on top can slow breathing, not just cause grogginess. Alcohol sits among the nine major-rated entries here, and those nine are worth learning before you look at the rest of the page.”

About Uva Ursi
What is Uva Ursi?
- Urinary tract infections
- Urinary discomfort
- Mild diuretic
- Kidney stones
- Skin conditions
Uva ursi is a traditional herb used mainly for urinary tract infections, and its leaves contain a compound called arbutin that may have antimicrobial effects in the urine. Evidence in people is limited, and because high doses or long-term use may be harmful to the liver and could be toxic, it should only be used short-term and with guidance from a healthcare professional. Avoid it during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
