Warfarin falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C19 (CYP2C19) SUBSTRATES — the group Uva Ursi interacts with.

Theoretically, uva ursi may decrease the metabolism of CYP2C19 substrates.
In vitro, uva ursi appears to inhibit cytochrome CYP2C19. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for warfarin: lab studies suggest uva ursi might slow down a liver enzyme called CYP2C19, which is one of the pathways your body uses to clear warfarin. If that enzyme is blocked, warfarin could build up and thin your blood more than intended. With warfarin, even small shifts matter, so the worry would be easy bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or more serious bleeding, along with a rising INR.

The honest part is that this has only been seen in test-tube studies, never confirmed in real people, so it's theoretical. Still, because warfarin is so dose-sensitive, I'd loop in your pharmacist or doctor before adding uva ursi, and keep up with your INR checks.

Here's the gist: lab tests suggest uva ursi might slow down an enzyme (CYP3A4) that helps your body clear certain medicines. If that happened with warfarin, more of the drug could linger, which in theory could thin your blood a bit more than intended. With a medicine like warfarin, even small shifts matter, so the concern would be extra bleeding or bruising, dark stools, or a higher INR on your next check.

The honest part: this has only been seen in a test tube, not in real people, so it's far from proven. Still, since warfarin is so finicky, I wouldn't add uva ursi on your own. Run it past your pharmacist or doctor first, and keep up with your regular INR testing.

Uva ursi is a traditional herb used mainly for urinary tract infections, and its leaves contain a compound called arbutin that may have antimicrobial effects in the urine. Evidence in people is limited, and because high doses or long-term use may be harmful to the liver and could be toxic, it should only be used short-term and with guidance from a healthcare professional. Avoid it during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

What Is Warfarin Used For?

Brand name: Warfarin

Warfarin sodium tablets and Jantoven tablets are both used to prevent and treat venous thrombosis (blood clots in the veins) and pulmonary embolism (a clot in the lungs). They are also used to prevent clot-related complications in people with atrial fibrillation (an irregular heart rhythm) or who have had a heart valve replaced.

In people who have had a heart attack, warfarin is used to reduce the risk of death, another heart attack, stroke, or other clotting events. It does not dissolve an existing clot, but it helps prevent the clot from growing and stops new dangerous clots from forming.
