Ertapenem (Invanz) is a potent injectable antibiotic used for serious infections, and with one major-rated interaction among the 50 ingredients here, this is a list to read carefully rather than skim. The major entry is activated charcoal, which can pull down levels of many drugs even when they are not swallowed, so it can matter despite ertapenem being given by IV or injection. The rest of the list runs milder, 39 moderate and 10 minor, and more than half of it is probiotics, Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium strains that the antibiotic can simply kill off before they do you any good.

The fixes are mostly simple. Take probiotics well apart from your antibiotic so the live organisms survive, and hold off on charcoal products during treatment unless your prescriber clears them.
