Chlorthalidone falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Adrafinil interacts with.

Theoretically, adrafinil might reduce the effects of antihypertensive drugs.
Adrafinil is a precursor to the stimulant prescription drug modafinil. Modafinil has been shown to increase diastolic and systolic blood pressure. Retrospective analyses show that patients taking modafinil had a small but increased rate of requiring new antihypertensive drugs or increased use of antihypertensive drugs when compared with placebo.

Here's the basic idea: you're taking chlorthalidone, a water pill, to help bring your blood pressure down. Adrafinil turns into modafinil in your liver, and modafinil can nudge blood pressure up a bit. So the worry is that adrafinil could work against your chlorthalidone, making it harder to keep your numbers where your doctor wants them.

I'll be honest with you, this is a theoretical concern based on how these drugs behave, not strong proof. In studies, the effect was small. Still, if you notice your blood pressure creeping up or you feel jittery, that's worth mentioning. Please don't change your chlorthalidone on your own. Check in with your pharmacist or doctor before combining these.

What Is Chlorthalidone Used For?

Brand names: Hygroton, Thalitone

Chlorthalidone is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of serious cardiovascular events, especially strokes and heart attacks. It can be used alone or combined with other blood pressure medicines.

Chlorthalidone is also used as an add-on treatment for edema (fluid buildup) caused by heart failure, liver cirrhosis, and kidney conditions including nephrotic syndrome, acute glomerulonephritis, and chronic renal failure. Thalitone is additionally indicated for edema associated with heart failure, liver cirrhosis, and renal disease including nephrotic syndrome.
