Lurasidone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Bacopa interacts with.

Theoretically, bacopa might increase the levels and adverse effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
Research on the effects of bacopa extracts on CYP3A4 enzymes is conflicting. Some in vitro evidence suggests that bacopa extract can moderately and competitively inhibit CYP3A4, while other in vitro evidence suggests that any effect is unlikely to be clinically significant.

Here's the basic idea with bacopa and lurasidone (Latuda). Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear lurasidone out. In lab dish studies, bacopa has shown some ability to slow that enzyme down. If that happened in real life, lurasidone could build up a bit higher than expected, which might mean more of its usual side effects like drowsiness, dizziness, restlessness, or nausea.

I want to keep this in perspective, though. This is only a theoretical concern from test-tube research, and even those studies disagree with each other. We don't have human evidence showing a real problem. Still, since both can make you sleepy, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Bacopa is an Ayurvedic herb most often used for memory and thinking. What Is Lurasidone Used For?

Brand name: Latuda

Lurasidone hydrochloride tablets are approved to treat schizophrenia in adults and adolescents aged 13 to 17, and to treat depressive episodes associated with bipolar I disorder (bipolar depression) in adults and children aged 10 to 17. Latuda is one of the brand names under which lurasidone is available as a tablet.

For bipolar depression, lurasidone can be used on its own (monotherapy) in adults and pediatric patients aged 10 to 17, or used alongside lithium or valproate (adjunctive therapy) in adults.
