Why this applies to Aspirin, Oxycodone

Aspirin, Oxycodone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Ceylon Leadwort interacts with.

Plumbagin, a constituent of Ceylon leadwort, has been shown to inhibit cytochrome P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) in vitro. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. Theoretically, Ceylon leadwort might increase the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6. Some drugs metabolized by CYP2D6 include amitriptyline (Elavil), codeine, desipramine (Norpramin), flecainide (Tambocor), fluoxetine (Prozac), ondansetron (Zofran), tramadol (Ultram), and others.

Percodan combines two medicines: aspirin and oxycodone. The piece that matters here is oxycodone, which your liver partly processes through an enzyme called CYP2D6. Ceylon Leadwort contains plumbagin, and in lab dish studies (not in real people yet) it slowed that enzyme down. In theory, blocking CYP2D6 could let oxycodone build up a bit more than usual.

If that happened, you might feel stronger opioid effects like extra drowsiness, dizziness, constipation, or slowed breathing. I want to stress this is theoretical and based only on test-tube work, so it's far from certain. Still, because oxycodone is a powerful pain medicine, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing them, rather than guessing.

Aspirin, Oxycodone also falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS.

There is some concern that Ceylon leadwort might potentiate the effects of anticoagulant and antiplatelet drugs and possibly increase the risk of bleeding. Ceylon leadwort root extract has been shown to decrease platelet adhesion and prolong bleeding in animals. However, this effect has not yet been demonstrated in humans. Until more is known, use cautiously in patients taking anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs. Some of these drugs include aspirin, clopidogrel (Plavix), dalteparin (Fragmin), enoxaparin (Lovenox), heparin, ticlopidine (Ticlid), warfarin (Coumadin), and others.

The combo pill you're asking about, Percodan, pairs aspirin with oxycodone. The piece that matters here is the aspirin. Aspirin already thins the blood by keeping platelets from sticking together, which is exactly the same direction Ceylon Leadwort seems to push. In animal studies, this plant's root extract slowed platelet clumping and made bleeding last longer. Stack that on top of aspirin and there's a theoretical chance of more easy bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or stomach irritation.

I want to be honest: this hasn't been shown in people yet, so it's a cautious flag, not a proven problem. Still, since you're on a blood-thinning medicine, run it past your pharmacist or doctor before adding the supplement.

Ceylon Leadwort (Plumbago zeylanica) is a plant long used in Ayurvedic and other traditional medicine systems, mainly for digestion, skin problems, and pain. Solid human studies are lacking, and the plant contains plumbagin, a compound that can irritate skin and tissues and may be unsafe in larger amounts.
