These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Ceylon Leadwort interacts with whole categories of medication. Chlorpropamide falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Ceylon Leadwort in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES
1 of 2Why this applies to Chlorpropamide
Chlorpropamide falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Ceylon Leadwort interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the honest picture with chlorpropamide and Ceylon Leadwort. The concern on file is that plumbagin (a compound in the plant) blocked an enzyme called CYP2D6 in a test tube. The thing is, chlorpropamide isn't really cleared by CYP2D6 in any meaningful way, so this particular pathway likely doesn't apply much to your blood sugar medicine. The whole interaction is also purely theoretical, based on lab work, with nothing reported in real people.
That said, the bigger practical worry is that herbal products like this can shift blood sugar on their own. If you ever feel shaky, sweaty, confused, or unusually tired (signs of low blood sugar), treat it and check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding this supplement.

ANTIDIABETES DRUGS
2 of 2Chlorpropamide also falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the situation with Ceylon Leadwort and your Chlorpropamide (Diabinese). Chlorpropamide is a sulfonylurea, which means it pushes your pancreas to release more insulin to bring your blood sugar down. The catch is that Ceylon Leadwort has its own effect on blood sugar, but the research is messy. In animal studies it has both raised and lowered glucose, and none of this has been confirmed in people, so we honestly can't predict which direction it would go.
Because the effects could stack, watch for signs of low blood sugar like shakiness, sweating, confusion, or dizziness, and keep in mind your numbers could also run higher than expected. Chlorpropamide is long-acting, so a low can linger. Please check your blood sugar more closely and talk with your pharmacist or doctor before combining these.

- Antimicrobial folk remedy
Ceylon Leadwort (Plumbago zeylanica) is a plant long used in Ayurvedic and other traditional medicine systems, mainly for digestion, skin problems, and pain. Talk to a pharmacist or doctor before using it, and avoid it in pregnancy.
