These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Ceylon Leadwort interacts with whole categories of medication. Deflazacort falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Ceylon Leadwort in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
1 of 2Why this applies to Deflazacort
Deflazacort falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Ceylon Leadwort interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for Deflazacort (Emflaza). After you take it, your body converts it into its active form, and from there an enzyme called CYP3A4 helps break it down and clear it out. Ceylon Leadwort contains plumbagin, which in lab tests slows that same enzyme down. If CYP3A4 is working slower, your deflazacort could hang around longer and build up, meaning stronger steroid effects.
In practice that might look like more of the usual corticosteroid issues: fluid retention and puffiness, higher blood sugar, mood or sleep changes, stomach upset, or extra infection risk over time. I'll be honest though, this is theory based only on test-tube studies, not anything seen in real people. Still, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS
2 of 2Deflazacort also falls under IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing to know if you're using Ceylon Leadwort alongside Deflazacort (Emflaza). Deflazacort is a corticosteroid that works partly by calming down the immune system, which is exactly what helps in Duchenne muscular dystrophy. In lab and animal studies, a compound in Ceylon Leadwort called plumbagin showed its own immune-affecting activity. The concern on file is that the two could theoretically pull in different directions and make your steroid therapy less predictable.
I want to be honest about how thin this evidence is. It comes only from test tube and animal research, not from people, so we don't really know if it matters at the doses you'd take. Still, because Deflazacort is doing an important job, I'd run any Ceylon Leadwort use past your pharmacist or doctor first rather than starting it on your own.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Deflazacort page
“Deflazacort (Emflaza) is a corticosteroid, best known for treating Duchenne muscular dystrophy, and the liver clears it through the CYP3A4 enzyme, so supplements that block or speed up that enzyme can genuinely shift how much of the drug reaches the blood. That earns this page real caution.”

Ceylon Leadwort (Plumbago zeylanica) is a plant long used in Ayurvedic and other traditional medicine systems, mainly for digestion, skin problems, and pain.
