These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Ceylon Leadwort interacts with whole categories of medication. Dextromethorphan, Pseudoephedrine, Triprolidine falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Ceylon Leadwort in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES
1 of 2Why this applies to Dextromethorphan, Pseudoephedrine, Triprolidine
Dextromethorphan, Pseudoephedrine, Triprolidine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Ceylon Leadwort interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
The piece of Actifed DM that matters here is the dextromethorphan, the cough suppressant. Your body clears it using a liver enzyme called CYP2D6. In lab studies, plumbagin (a compound in Ceylon Leadwort) appears to slow that enzyme down. If that happened in real life, dextromethorphan could build up and lead to things like drowsiness, dizziness, confusion, or feeling off-balance. The pseudoephedrine and triprolidine portions aren't really driven by this pathway.
Here's the reassuring part: this is only based on test-tube research, not real people, so it's theoretical and likely mild for most folks. Still, since reactions vary, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing them.

CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
2 of 2Dextromethorphan, Pseudoephedrine, Triprolidine also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist with Actifed DM (which combines dextromethorphan, pseudoephedrine, and triprolidine). The cough-suppressing part, dextromethorphan, is partly cleared by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In test-tube studies, plumbagin from Ceylon Leadwort can slow that enzyme down. If that held true in people, your body might clear dextromethorphan a bit more slowly, letting it build up. That could mean more drowsiness, dizziness, or feeling foggy than usual.
Important context: this is only seen in lab studies, not in real patients, so it's theoretical at this point. I wouldn't lose sleep over it, but since both products can make you sleepy, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.
