Empagliflozin falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Ceylon Leadwort interacts with.

Ceylon leadwort root extract has been shown to both increase and decrease blood glucose levels in animal research. This effect has not yet been demonstrated in humans. Theoretically, Ceylon leadwort might reduce or potentiate the effects of antidiabetes drugs. Monitor blood glucose levels closely. Medication dose adjustments may be necessary. Some antidiabetes drugs include glimepiride (Amaryl), glyburide (Diabeta, Glynase PresTab, Micronase), insulin, pioglitazone (Actos), rosiglitazone (Avandia), and others.

Here's the honest picture with Ceylon Leadwort and empagliflozin (Jardiance). In animal studies, the plant's main compound (plumbagin) has pushed blood sugar both up and down, so the direction isn't predictable. Because empagliflozin already lowers blood sugar by sending it out in your urine, adding something that may also nudge sugar in either direction makes your numbers harder to count on.

The big caveat: this is only lab and animal data, not proven in people, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, if you do take both, check your blood sugar more often and watch for lows (shakiness, sweating, dizziness) or stubborn highs. Please loop in your pharmacist or doctor before starting this supplement so any dose tweaks can be planned.

Ceylon Leadwort (Plumbago zeylanica) is a plant long used in Ayurvedic and other traditional medicine systems, mainly for digestion, skin problems, and pain. Solid human studies are lacking, and the plant contains plumbagin, a compound that can irritate skin and tissues and may be unsafe in larger amounts. Talk to a pharmacist or doctor before using it, and avoid it in pregnancy.

What Is Empagliflozin Used For?

Brand name: Jardiance

Jardiance (empagliflozin) tablets are approved for several important uses in adults. It reduces the risk of cardiovascular death and hospitalization in adults with heart failure. It also slows the progression of chronic kidney disease by reducing the risk of serious kidney decline, end-stage kidney disease, cardiovascular death, and hospitalization. In adults with type 2 diabetes and established cardiovascular disease, Jardiance reduces the risk of cardiovascular death.

Jardiance is also used — alongside diet and exercise — to improve blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes in adults and children aged 10 and older. It is not recommended for blood sugar control in type 1 diabetes (it may raise the risk of a dangerous condition called diabetic ketoacidosis) or in type 2 diabetes patients with severely reduced kidney function.
