Why this applies to Flibanserin

Flibanserin falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Ceylon Leadwort interacts with.

Plumbagin, a constituent of Ceylon leadwort, has been shown to inhibit cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) in vitro. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. Theoretically, Ceylon leadwort might increase the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4. Some drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 include lovastatin (Mevacor), clarithromycin (Biaxin), indinavir (Crixivan), sildenafil (Viagra), triazolam (Halcion), and numerous others.

Here's the gist for Addyi (flibanserin). Your body clears this medication mainly through a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Ceylon Leadwort contains a compound (plumbagin) that, in lab dish studies, can slow that same enzyme down. If it slows the breakdown of flibanserin, more of the drug could linger in your system than expected.

For flibanserin, that could mean stronger side effects like dizziness, sleepiness, low blood pressure, and even fainting, especially troublesome since this drug already carries warnings about those. The key caveat: this is only theoretical, based on test-tube work, and hasn't been seen in real people yet. Still, because flibanserin's side effects can be serious, I'd run this combo by your pharmacist or doctor before mixing them.

Ceylon Leadwort (Plumbago zeylanica) is a plant long used in Ayurvedic and other traditional medicine systems, mainly for digestion, skin problems, and pain. Addyi is approved to treat acquired, generalized hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) — a condition where low sexual desire causes significant distress or relationship difficulty — in women under 65. "Acquired" means the low desire developed after a period of normal desire; "generalized" means it happens regardless of the situation or partner.

Addyi is not intended for use in men, and it is not a sexual performance enhancer. It is also not meant for HSDD that is caused by a medical condition, a psychiatric condition, relationship problems, or another medication.
