Rituximab-Pvvr falls under IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS — the group Ceylon Leadwort interacts with.

Plumbagin, a constituent of Ceylon leadwort, has demonstrated immunosuppressant activity in animal research. Theoretically, Ceylon leadwort might interfere with immunosuppressive therapy. Immunosuppressant drugs include azathioprine (Imuran), basiliximab (Simulect), cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune), daclizumab (Zenapax), muromonab-CD3 (OKT3, Orthoclone OKT3), mycophenolate (CellCept), tacrolimus (FK506, Prograf), sirolimus (Rapamune), prednisone (Deltasone, Orasone), corticosteroids (glucocorticoids), and others.

Here's the situation with Ruxience (rituximab-pvvr) and Ceylon Leadwort. Rituximab is an infused antibody given for things like certain lymphomas, rheumatoid arthritis, and some autoimmune conditions. It works by lowering part of your immune system (your B-cells). The plumbagin in Ceylon Leadwort has shown its own immune-dampening effects in lab and animal studies only, so the worry is that the two could pile on top of each other and push your immune system down further than intended.

Honestly, this is a theoretical concern, not something proven in people. But because rituximab already raises your risk of infections, I wouldn't add a poorly studied herb on top of it without checking first. Please run it by your oncologist, rheumatologist, or pharmacist before using Ceylon Leadwort.

Ceylon Leadwort (Plumbago zeylanica) is a plant long used in Ayurvedic and other traditional medicine systems, mainly for digestion, skin problems, and pain. Solid human studies are lacking, and the plant contains plumbagin, a compound that can irritate skin and tissues and may be unsafe in larger amounts. Talk to a pharmacist or doctor before using it, and avoid it in pregnancy.
