Why this applies to Vibegron

Vibegron falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Ceylon Leadwort interacts with.

Plumbagin, a constituent of Ceylon leadwort, has been shown to inhibit cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) in vitro. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. Theoretically, Ceylon leadwort might increase the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4. Some drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 include lovastatin (Mevacor), clarithromycin (Biaxin), indinavir (Crixivan), sildenafil (Viagra), triazolam (Halcion), and numerous others.

Here's the situation with Vibegron (Gemtesa) and Ceylon Leadwort. The plant's main compound, plumbagin, has slowed down an enzyme called CYP3A4 in lab dish studies. Since your body uses CYP3A4 (along with other pathways) to help clear Vibegron, the theory is that taking the two together could let Vibegron build up a bit more than usual.

If that happened, you might notice more of Vibegron's usual effects, like headache, dry mouth, or trouble fully emptying your bladder. I want to be honest though: this is only based on lab research, not real people, so it may not amount to much in everyday life. Vibegron isn't activated by this enzyme, so the concern is too much drug, not too little. Still, since there's no solid human data on Ceylon Leadwort, please run it by your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

What Is Vibegron Used For?

Brand name: Gemtesa

Gemtesa (vibegron) is used to treat overactive bladder (OAB) in adults. Specifically, it targets the three main OAB symptoms: sudden strong urges to urinate, leaking urine when you feel that urge (urge urinary incontinence), and needing to urinate too often.

Gemtesa is also approved for adult men who have OAB symptoms and are already taking medication for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) — an enlarged prostate.
