Here's the gist for Selexipag (Uptravi). This medicine helps relax the blood vessels in your lungs, and one known side effect is that it can make you bruise or bleed a little more easily. The concern on file is that cola nut contains caffeine, and caffeine has shown some mild blood-thinning (antiplatelet) activity in lab studies. Stacked together, the worry is a slightly higher chance of bruising or bleeding.

That said, this is very theoretical. The effect has only been seen in test-tube or animal studies, never reported in actual people, and it's rated unlikely. A cup of cola-nut tea is unlikely to matter much; concentrated supplement doses are where I'd be more cautious. If you notice easy bruising or unusual bleeding, check in with your pharmacist or doctor.

About Selexipag

What Is Selexipag Used For?

Brand name: Uptravi

Selexipag tablets are used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH, WHO Group I) — a type of high blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs. The goal is to slow the disease from getting worse and to reduce the chances of being hospitalized because of PAH.

Uptravi (selexipag) tablets are approved for both adults and children aged 2 years and older. Uptravi for injection (intravenous) is also available for adult patients who are already on Uptravi tablets but temporarily cannot take medicine by mouth.
