Here's the gist: this interaction is really about the caffeine inside cola nut, not chlorpromazine itself. Chlorpromazine can slow down a liver enzyme called CYP1A2, which is the same enzyme your body uses to clear caffeine. So when the two are taken together, caffeine may stick around longer and hit a little harder. You might notice things like jitteriness, a racing heart, trouble sleeping, or feeling on edge.

That said, this is mostly theory based on lab work, and the database rates it as minor and only possible. Everyday amounts likely won't cause trouble, but concentrated cola nut supplements or lots of caffeine could. If you feel wired or your heart races, ease up and check with your pharmacist or doctor.

What Is Chlorpromazine Used For?

Chlorpromazine is used to manage psychotic disorders and treat schizophrenia. It also controls nausea and vomiting, relieves restlessness and apprehension before surgery, and controls the manic phase of manic-depressive illness. Other uses include relief of intractable hiccups, treatment of acute intermittent porphyria, and use as an adjunct in tetanus treatment.

In children ages 1 to 12, it is used for severe behavioral problems marked by explosive or combative behavior, and for short-term treatment of hyperactive children with conduct disorders. The oral forms are also approved for the management of manifestations of psychotic disorders broadly, in addition to the uses shared with the injection form.
