Cola Nut + Acepromazine
Acepromazine brand name: Atravet.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
PHENOTHIAZINES
Why this applies to Acepromazine
Acepromazine falls under PHENOTHIAZINES — the group Cola Nut interacts with.
Cola nut contains caffeine. Phenothiazines can reduce the metabolism of caffeine by inhibiting cytochrome P450 1A2 (CYP1A2).
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's a fun twist with this pairing: acepromazine (Atravet) is actually a sedative used mostly in animals, and the concern here isn't really about the medication itself. Instead, acepromazine belongs to a drug family called phenothiazines, which can slow down a liver enzyme (CYP1A2) that normally clears caffeine from the body. Cola nut is basically a natural source of caffeine.
So in theory, the caffeine from cola nut could hang around longer and feel a bit stronger, meaning more jitteriness, a faster heartbeat, trouble sleeping, or restlessness. I'll be straight with you though: this is rated minor and is based only on lab and animal data, not real-world human cases. If you're using this combination, just check in with your pharmacist or doctor first.

- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Acepromazine page
“Alcohol tops my concerns with acepromazine, a phenothiazine tranquilizer. Beer and wine both carry major ratings backed by human data, because they deepen its sedation and can add other side effects.”

About Cola Nut
What is Cola Nut?
- Energy and alertness
- Mental focus
- Physical performance
- Weight loss support
- Traditional digestive aid
Cola nut is a caffeine-containing seed from West Africa used mainly as a natural stimulant for energy and alertness. Most of its effects come from caffeine, and strong human evidence for specific health benefits is limited. Because of its caffeine content, people sensitive to stimulants and those who are pregnant or have heart conditions should be cautious.
