Here's the short version: cola nut's main active ingredient is caffeine, and the worry on file is mostly theoretical. The thinking is that caffeine might nudge your blood sugar up or down, which could make it a little harder to keep things steady while you're using Canagliflozin (Invokana) to manage type 2 diabetes.

The honest truth is the evidence here is weak and conflicting, and the interaction is rated minor and unlikely. Canagliflozin works in your kidneys to flush out extra sugar, so caffeine doesn't really change how the drug is processed. An occasional caffeinated drink isn't likely to be a problem, but heavy or concentrated cola nut supplements could affect how your blood sugar readings look. What Is Canagliflozin Used For?

Brand name: Invokana

Invokana (canagliflozin) is used alongside diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in adults and children aged 10 and older with type 2 diabetes. It is not for type 1 diabetes.

In adults with type 2 diabetes, Invokana is also used to lower the risk of heart attack, stroke, and cardiovascular death in those with established cardiovascular disease, and to reduce the risk of serious kidney complications — including end-stage kidney disease, cardiovascular death, and hospitalization for heart failure — in those with diabetic kidney disease and high levels of protein in the urine.
