Theoretically, cola nut might reduce the effects of felbamate and increase the risk for convulsions.
Cola nut contains caffeine. Animal research suggests that a high dose of caffeine 161.7 mg/kg can decreases the anticonvulsant activity of felbamate. However, this effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for cola nut and Felbamate: cola nut's main active ingredient is caffeine, and animal studies hint that very high doses of caffeine may chip away at how well felbamate calms down seizure activity in the brain. In theory, that could mean less seizure protection and a higher chance of a breakthrough seizure.

I want to be honest about how thin this evidence is. It comes from lab and animal research using huge caffeine doses, and nothing like this has been reported in people. So I wouldn't lose sleep over a normal cup of coffee or cola. Still, since felbamate is a serious anti-seizure medicine, it's worth a quick chat with your doctor or pharmacist before adding concentrated cola nut supplements.

About Felbamate

What Is Felbamate Used For?

Brand name: Felbatol

Felbamate is not a first-line seizure medication. It is used only when a person's epilepsy has not responded well enough to other treatments and the seizures are severe enough that the serious risks of this drug are considered acceptable.

In adults, felbamate can be used alone or alongside other antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) to treat partial seizures (seizures that start in one part of the brain), with or without spreading to become a full seizure. In children, felbamate is used as an add-on treatment for both partial and generalized seizures linked to Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, a severe form of childhood epilepsy. Felbatol is specifically labeled for these uses in both adults and children.
