These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Cola Nut interacts with whole categories of medication. Dapagliflozin Propanediol, Metformin falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Cola Nut in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Minor).
ANTIDIABETES DRUGS
1 of 2Why this applies to Dapagliflozin Propanediol, Metformin
Dapagliflozin Propanediol, Metformin falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Cola Nut interacts with.
Cola nut contains caffeine. Some conflicting reports claim that caffeine might increase or decrease blood sugar.
Interaction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans..
Here's the simple version: Xigduo XR is a combo of dapagliflozin and metformin, two medicines that work together to lower your blood sugar. Cola nut's main active ingredient is caffeine, and the concern on file is purely about caffeine's effect on blood sugar, not about it changing how your medication is broken down.
The honest truth is the evidence here is shaky. Some reports say caffeine nudges blood sugar up a little, others say down, so the net effect is unpredictable and usually small. This is rated a minor and unlikely interaction. A cup of cola-nut tea probably won't throw off your numbers, but stronger supplement doses could. If you're checking your glucose, just watch for any odd swings and run it by your pharmacist or doctor.

METFORMIN (Glucophage)
2 of 2Cola nut contains caffeine. Animal research suggests that metformin can reduce caffeine metabolism.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist with your Xigduo XR (which combines dapagliflozin and metformin) and cola nut. This isn't really about your diabetes control. Instead, it works the other way around: the metformin part may slow down how fast your body clears caffeine, and cola nut is basically a caffeine source. So the caffeine could linger and hit a little harder than usual.
In plain terms, you might notice more jitteriness, a racing heart, trouble sleeping, or feeling wound up. Worth knowing this is theoretical, based on animal research only, so it's rated minor and may not affect you at all. If you enjoy cola nut and feel extra wired, ease back and mention it to your pharmacist or doctor.
