Theoretically, cola nut might increase the levels and adverse effects of tiagabine.
Cola nut contains caffeine. Animal research suggests that chronic caffeine administration can increase the serum concentrations of tiagabine. However, concomitant use does not seem to reduce the antiepileptic effects of tiagabine.

Here's the gist with cola nut and your tiagabine (Gabitril). Cola nut's main active ingredient is caffeine, and some animal research hints that regular caffeine might nudge tiagabine levels in the blood a bit higher. Tiagabine works as-is (it isn't a prodrug that needs activating), so higher levels could mean more of its usual effects, things like drowsiness, dizziness, trouble concentrating, or feeling shaky or off-balance.

That said, I'd keep this in perspective. The evidence here is weak and theoretical, the interaction is rated minor, and the antiseizure benefit of tiagabine doesn't appear to drop. A cola drink now and then is unlikely to matter much; concentrated cola nut supplements are the bigger question mark. If you're using it regularly, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on how you feel.

What Is Tiagabine Used For?

Brand name: Gabitril

Tiagabine hydrochloride tablets are approved as add-on (adjunctive) therapy for partial seizures in adults and adolescents aged 12 and older. It is not used alone — it is always added to an existing seizure medication regimen.

Both the film-coated and standard tablet forms of tiagabine hydrochloride carry this same indication. The safety and effectiveness of tiagabine have not been established for any other condition.
