Here's the thing to know if you're reaching for cola nut while taking Enoxacin. Enoxacin is an antibiotic that happens to slow down a liver enzyme called CYP1A2, and that same enzyme is your body's main way of clearing caffeine. Cola nut is basically a natural caffeine source, so when the two are together, the caffeine can hang around longer than usual and build up.

What that feels like is more of caffeine's usual punch: jitteriness, a racing or pounding heart, trouble sleeping, anxiety, or an upset stomach. This is a theoretical concern based on how the drug works, not something proven in big studies, so don't panic. Still, if you notice you're wired or shaky, ease up on the cola nut and check in with your pharmacist or doctor.

Here's the thing to know if you're taking Enoxacin and reaching for cola nut: this antibiotic is actually one of the stronger fluoroquinolones when it comes to slowing down how your body clears caffeine. Enoxacin blocks an enzyme called CYP1A2, which is the main pathway that breaks caffeine down. Since cola nut is essentially a natural caffeine source, that caffeine can hang around in your system much longer than usual.

What does that feel like in real life? You might notice the caffeine hitting harder, things like jitteriness, a racing or pounding heart, trouble sleeping, restlessness, or feeling on edge.
