Moexipril falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Danshen interacts with.

Theoretically, taking danshen with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Animal research suggests that danshen can produce dose-dependent hypotensive effects. Furthermore, concomitant use with captopril appears to potentiate this effect.

Here's the gist: Moexipril (Univasc) already lowers your blood pressure by relaxing your blood vessels. Danshen, in animal studies, seems to lower blood pressure too, and it actually boosted that effect when paired with a related ACE inhibitor (captopril). So the worry is simple addition. Two things pulling your pressure down at once could push it too low.

If that happens, you might feel dizzy, lightheaded, tired, or woozy when you stand up. I want to be honest with you, though: this is based on lab and animal research, not strong human studies, so it's more of a theoretical caution than a proven problem. Still, before you add Danshen, check with your pharmacist or doctor, especially if your pressure already runs on the lower side.

What Is Moexipril Used For?

Brand name: Univasc

Moexipril Hydrochloride tablets are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). They can be used on their own or combined with thiazide diuretics (water pills) when blood pressure is not controlled by moexipril alone.

It's worth knowing that ACE inhibitors, including moexipril, tend to lower blood pressure less effectively in Black patients than in non-Black patients, and Black patients also have a higher risk of a serious swelling reaction called angioedema with ACE inhibitors.
